LITERACY DEVELOPMENT

Teaching children the joy of reading is one way to improve language and literacy skills. During shared reading experiences children are exposed to complex sentence structures as well as correct grammar and word usage. Children learn to follow the sequence of words from left to right and top to bottom. As well as basic alphabetic principles such as letter identification. During literacy activities, children learn to recognize environmental prints such as a McDonald’s logo. Simple cooking experiences also encourage literacy development. Children learn to make lists, identify ingredients and follow directions.
